I’m Nora McInerny and it’s going to be okay. And one of the things about this podcast is that the, it is subject to change and it’s different for all of us every day.

VOICEMAIL BEEP

Caller: Hi Nora and crew. I’m Kelsey, longtime listener. First time caller. That phrase right there might date me slightly, but so will the okay thing I’d like to share, and let’s not call it old, but rather classic or vintage. I’m a huge fan of the 1985 mini-series and of Green Gables. It’s so dear to my heart that I’m vehemently opposed to watching the Netflix reboot.

Megan follows his portrayal of the quirky, verbose Anne brings me comfort every time I’m sick, sad, or struggling. It’s an anchor when life feels like quote, A perfect graveyard of buried hopes. Gosh, I love that. And although I know the miniseries is based on Lucy Maude Montgomery’s eight part book series, I confess, I’ve only read bits and pieces.

My mom, however, has read them all. And during one of her late night or early morning reading sessions, she came across this. A broken heart in real life isn’t half as dreadful as it is in books. It’s a good deal, like a bad tooth, though you won’t think that a very romantic simile. It takes spells of aching and gives you a sleepless night now and then, but between times, it lets you enjoy life and dreams and echoes and peanut candy as if there were nothing that matter with it.

So when I went through a horrible breakup years ago, I found this quote with a box of peanut brittle at my doorstep. And when heartache struck again a few years later, more peanut candy and a reminder of Lucy Mods Wise words. And just recently, I found something sweet on my porch with a kind note from my mom.

And so the exchange continues whenever either of us experience heartbreak or disappointment or pain. Even extending the gesture to friends and other family members. It’s just a small it that reminds me it’s going to be okay.

OUTRO MUSIC

Peanut brittle is not okay with my dentist. But one of the rules of this show is that we enjoy the okay things of other people regardless of what our dentist says. Troy, I know your stance. I think you know mine as well. The IT in it’s going to be okay is different every day and for everyone, and we love hearing and sharing your okay things.
