Because no matter how you feel about any single day, Nora reminds us a day is such a fleeting thing.

About It's Going to Be OK

If you have anxiety, depression or any sense of the world around you, you know that not *everything* is going to be okay. In fact, many things aren’t okay and never will be!

But instead of falling into the pit of despair, we’re bringing you a little OK for your day. Every weekday, we’ll bring you one okay thing to help you start, end or endure your day with the opposite of a doom scroll.

I’m Nora McInerny, and It’s Going To Be OK.

It is December 25th, 2023, a Monday. And for a lot of us, it means that this is Christmas Day.

And this could be a happy and wonderful day for a lot of reasons, or it could be just a day, or it could be a really, really, really hard day for a lot of different reasons.

But this show is not called It’s Going To Be a Hard Day Even Though It’s Christmas. The show is called It’s Going To Be OK. The It is different every day.

And today, the. It in It’s Going To Be OK is that it’s Christmas Today, but it won’t be tomorrow.

So if today is a tough one for you, a reminder of what you don’t have and wish you did or what you do have that you wish you didn’t, tomorrow is December 26th and Christmas is over.

And if today is your favorite day of the year, I doubt you would be listening to a podcast right now. But if you are and you love Christmas, it’s over tomorrow. And that is a good thing.

Like, a lot of little kids, my youngest child loves Christmas. And during the anticipation of the holiday season this year, he asked me, why can’t every day be Christmas? Just like a little kid from like a 1950s movie.

Gee, mom, why can’t every day be Christmas? And I said, well, son, just kidding. I’ve never said son to my son, but I do say, well, buddy.

And I said that in this instance, I said, well, buddy, if something is every day, it’s not special. It’s just a regular day. If Christmas was every day, it wouldn’t actually be Christmas.

It would just be another day like any other day. And eventually you’d get tired of waking up to presents and family and waffles and wrapping paper all over the floor and the dogs trying to rip apart your new squishmallows.

Things are special because they are temporary. And things are bearable because they are temporary. So in the end, whether we love it or hate it, anticipate it in good ways or bad, it all passes by, all of it, even Christmas Day.

So we’re wishing you, wherever you are, whatever kind of Christmas Day makes sense, given your personal circumstances.
