Jess sent us a voicemail about a phrase her daughter has been saying that has become a kind of mantra.

About It's Going to Be OK

If you have anxiety, depression or any sense of the world around you, you know that not *everything* is going to be okay. In fact, many things aren’t okay and never will be!

But instead of falling into the pit of despair, we’re bringing you a little OK for your day. Every weekday, we’ll bring you one okay thing to help you start, end or endure your day with the opposite of a doom scroll.

Hi, it’s Jess, and it’s going to be OK. My four-year-old daughter is on the autism spectrum, and she doesn’t say much, and so when she says anything, it’s best to pay close attention.

And recently, she’s been telling me over and over, mommy, happy, slow, happy, slow. And really what she wants is for me to sing the Miss Rachel song that is the I’m So Happy song that we love, and she wants me to sing it slowly.

But when she says happy, slow, it’s like this beautiful reminder to me that happiness can be really slow growing.

And just because everything isn’t shiny today doesn’t mean that we haven’t planted some of those little happiness seeds that are working their way up to the surface, right?

Like the happiness can be slow coming, but that it is coming maybe when it’s not right in front of our face. It’s still there. We just can’t see it yet.

So today I’m thinking that happy, happy, slow, it’s on the way and it’s going to be OK.
