NORA: I’m Nora McInerny and It’s Going To Be Okay.
I’m Nora McInerny and it’s going to be okay. Even if I call my best friend and he doesn’t answer. Best friend is a tier and a title. You are allowed to have multiple. And I have multiple. This one knows exactly who he is. I like to call him during the workday. He does not like to answer because he has a job.
He has a job that is not the You know, I don’t know what people do all day. You know that I always love to hear about your jobs because I believed that life would be a Richard Scarry book and people would be laying bricks and delivering milk and maybe sorting mail and instead we are tapping and typing.
Most of the time, he’s got a tappy typey job. He can’t just answer the phone because I want him to. And I suppose that’s fine. So I was calling him to try to make his day more okay. Because on this show, we often get okay things from all of you. And today’s okay thing from Anna. is definitely going to be an okay thing for my best friend.
I’m going to let you listen to it and then I’m going to tell you why.
Anna: Hi, I’m Anna from the East Village of New York City, and it’s going to be okay. I decided if I start every day with dancing to a song, it sets the tone for the day. A reminder to be joyous, and a reminder to be silly, and a reminder to keep moving my body. I don’t know if anyone else does this, but every time I hear the theme song from this video, It’s going to be okay podcast.
I break into an involuntary shoulder shimmy, followed by an automatic hip sway, which instigates my feet to lift up and start stepping. All the while, my tiny beagle Clementine stares at me perplexed. At this point, I can’t help smirk and giggle while the theme song trails off, and I’m reminded that I hold a place for this daily tradition and can confirm to me that it’s going to be okay.
Okay. So are you ready to hear why this is relevant to my best friend? He made the theme song. He is secret audio. I’m not revealing his identity. The people who know, know he wants to remain a secret. He wants to remain anonymous, but wetold him, I told him, I was, I was making this show, it’s called It’s Going To Be Okay. It needs to sound fun. It needs to sound like the upswing after Terrible Thanks For Asking. Do you want to do this? He said yes. He sent us a bunch of options. This was our unanimous favorite. And now this show has 400 and some episodes and we, that’s 400 and some okay things out in the world and one of them is the song that he made.
So Anna, thank you for that. And to Clementine, stop being so judgmental, okay? You’re not perplexed. You’re judging. You’re judging, Anna. You see her dance to Podcast Thief music and you’re thinking, get a grip, lady. What are you doing? You know what?
You’re, you’re a dog, okay? Why don’t you try dancing? It’s not that hard. Snoopy did it. I’m just kidding. Okay? And that, that was not a fictional character at all. I don’t know why I’m suddenly bullying a dog. I’m sorry. It’s been a weird day. Um, but I, anyways. Things are okay. Not everything. Jeez Louise. This one thing is okay.
If, if, hopefully my friend hears this. I hope he’s a listener. God, I hope he’s a listener. Cause, uh, Lord knows he’s not gonna answer my phone, so I can tell him this. Thank you all for being here. Um, the name of the game here is it’s going to be okay. Just one little okay thing when things are grim. We are just out here looking for okay things and bringing them back to you.
We’re kind of like hunter gatherers in that way. We’re foragers looking for okay things in the mire, in the muck. This is a production of Feelings and Co. where your feelings are welcome. We love your feelings. Claire McInerny produced this episode, Amanda Romani mixed it, and the rest of our team here is Marcel Malikibu, Grace Berry, and me.
Our theme music, you know, it’s by Secret Audio.
