About It's Going to Be OK

If you have anxiety, depression or any sense of the world around you, you know that not *everything* is going to be okay. In fact, many things aren’t okay and never will be!

But instead of falling into the pit of despair, we’re bringing you a little OK for your day. Every weekday, we’ll bring you one okay thing to help you start, end or endure your day with the opposite of a doom scroll.

Jennifer: This is Jennifer, and it’s going to be okay.  About six years ago, I had the opportunity to do a musical through a local theater company.  There was one part for a child in this musical,  and that child was a 12 year old young man named Skyler, who got to play both Ben and Lisa in the show, which was pretty entertaining.

He was this, you know, cute young kid just kind of quiet doing his thing and I thought he’s pretty talented. It’ll be fun to see what happens with him in the future.  Well, let’s fast forward six years.  Sky has now graduated from high school and is pursuing music. And I know he will be extremely successful because, man, this kid is talented.

And Sky has just released his first single.  When I listened to this song, I burst into tears, but in a really good way.  The song is titled Song for a Friend,  and the lyrics are, are just a beautiful testament to friendship.  And it’s pretty amazing.  that they’ve come from this young man who is only 18 years old.

He’s got a really old soul, I think.  The gift that he gave me in this song  was, was so important to me. I had a very dear friend  who was truly the only person in my life that I could talk to  really understood what living with a chronic illness was like when I first got diagnosed with one myself.  And my friend, Cliff, passed away about two years ago.

And it, it’s just been heartbreaking to not have him in my life.  Listening to Sky’s song  just opened this door to remember that even though he is not  in a place where I can physically have a conversation with him,  I am so incredibly blessed to have had that friendship in my life  and the gifts of that friendship, the memories I have, those aren’t gone and they will always be there with me.

And I’m so grateful to Skylar for writing this song  and helping me to remember all of the good things about that friendship.  It’s still hard and I will always miss my friend.  But now I can  pull up the song anytime I need to  and remember all the good things and know that it is truly going to be okay.  I hope you love Song for a Friend as much as I have.
