On a recent trip to the trampoline park, Nora met two little girls singing a song and clapping hands. It felt like a sweet moment. Turns out, it was a scam.

Fade under narration:
Have you ever been to a trampoline park? Aside from being an absolute petri dish of God knows what, they’re so much fun. I mean, aside from the many dangers and inevitable injuries that always come with a trip, they’re fun. It’s truly impossible for me to jump on a trampoline and not smile. Even though it requires my pelvic floor muscles to clench as though my life depends on it just to not pee a little bit on a trampoline that has definitely seen worse than just pee, it’s so fun.
Every kid there is having a blast. They’re running around. They’re sweating. They’re colliding with each other and colluding with each other which I didn’t realize until autocorrect changed colliding to colluding and I thought, yeah, actually, they’re definitely doing both. They’re eating garbage food and sweating and making new friends that they’ll never see again.
They’re also practicing light scamming and deception. Because if you’re in a place where nobody knows you, you can be anyone. An example: two little girls behind me in the line for nachos made with neon orange cheese-flavored goo were doing one of those little hand-clap rhymes. My generation had Miss Mary Mac, but this one was way cooler and I asked the dad if I could record just the audio.
Trampoline Park Rhyme: full audio
That’s AMAZING, I told the girls, did you make it up? They looked me dead in the eye and said, yeah, we did. And this episode was going to be about how cool it was that these girls made this up and then I Thought to myself, oh, let’s just Google it…
And the first result is this youtube video…from ten years ago (rip audio)
I AM DEAD!!! I GOT PLAYED BY TWO LITTLE GIRLS WHO LET ME BELIEVE THEY MADE UP THIS RHYME! And I love it! I can’t stop laughing about this. Oh my god.
I’m Nora McInerny and I’m very gullible and it’s going to be okay! The IT depends on the day and the person and I’d love to hear yours. So send yours to us. Call us at 612.568.4441 or record a voice memo
