A listener sent us an email about how her three year old created a family tradition- blaming any mess on a dinosaur.

Today’s okay thing comes from Cynthia, who sent us this email:

Email whoosh

Our 3 children were playing in the backyard with some neighborhood kids and were alled to come in for dinner. Looking into the backyard I noticed that a small patio table had been smashed and there were glass pebbles everywhere. So, of course I asked my children to tell me who did this and what happened. No one was saying anything, so I went on a bit of a rant about honesty and responsibility and safety and all that.

Finally, my youngest, who was about 3 at the time, spoke up and said: I know what happened…

Before he said anything else, I thanked him for being brave and speaking up and how important it is to tell the truth, hoping to educate his older siblings.

Ok, go ahead, tell me what happened, I told him.

Well, he said, there was this dinosaur…and before he could keep going we all just burst out laughing.

Now all my children are teenagers and to this day, whenever a dirty plate is left in the basement, or wet towels are left in the bathroom floor and no one claims responsibility, we say,  « the dinosaur struck again! »
