Nora reads a poem by listener Leslie Cohn.
About It's Going to Be OK
If you have anxiety, depression or any sense of the world around you, you know that not *everything* is going to be okay. In fact, many things aren’t okay and never will be!
But instead of falling into the pit of despair, we’re bringing you a little OK for your day. Every weekday, we’ll bring you one okay thing to help you start, end or endure your day with the opposite of a doom scroll.

I’m Nora McInerny, and it’s going to be okay.
Today’s episode is by a listener named Leslie Cohn.
Today I woke up and so did our little dog.
Okay. The little dog woke me up. That’s her job.
To be honest it is synchronization.
She keeps our secrets.
Even with heavy questioning, she won’t crack.
Today I can breathe and swallow.
Today I can smell.
Today I can see, with and without prescription glasses.
Today I can hear, with or without aid.
Perhaps today I’ll hear Johnny Nash sing, “I can see clearly now the rain is gone.”
Whether the rain is gone, or it is not doesn’t matter. That song exists, which is a gift on so many levels.
Today I can walk. I have some aches and pains, yet I am moving.
Today I can feel. I can touch things that are soft, rough, smooth, squishy.
I can feel emotions as well: love, sadness, longing, joy.
Sometimes I hit the sweet spot of peaceful calm. Even a moment of that is righteous.
The crows are cawing and clucking.
The hummingbirds are flying and buzzing.
The lizards are doing push ups.
The citrus blossoms are loud in the air.
The electricity is on and our plumbing is working (indoors!).
I heard news of a cat visiting another cat at a window in Phoenix, AZ. Names are witheld for protection of privacy.
In that same home, an avocado pit is sprouting on a kitchen counter. From an avocado. Purchased at a market.
It is perched in a jar of water and held up by four toothpicks. I am pretty sure the avocado was originally from Mexico.
I heard news of squirrels being fed in Portland, OR.
Three peanuts were found in one shell today.
There are beings I love unconditionally on every imaginable plane of existence, and I tell them so.
Today I tell them, “You are loved and cherished”.
And I do.
You are loved and cherished.
Today and every day I tell them.
You are loved and cherished.
You are loved and cherished.
