About It's Going to Be OK

If you have anxiety, depression or any sense of the world around you, you know that not *everything* is going to be okay. In fact, many things aren’t okay and never will be!

But instead of falling into the pit of despair, we’re bringing you a little OK for your day. Every weekday, we’ll bring you one okay thing to help you start, end or endure your day with the opposite of a doom scroll.

Nora: I’m Nora McInerney, and this is It’s Going to be Okay.  This podcast is a group project. We are out there collecting okay things and then bringing them back to you because Not everything is okay. Not everything will be okay. And while it is tempting for me to fall down the spiral staircase of my own thoughts and just get It’s stuck in the abyss.

We’re not doing that today, baby. No. No. No. Monday through Friday, we are finding 1 little okay thing about the world around us, and we are clinging on to that.

And today, our okay thing comes from a listener named Beth Peterson who sent us this email.

*Email whoosh*

Beth: My son was about 3 and he had a teacher who was from Japan. They spoke Japanese off and on throughout the day but at pick up time the teacher would come to the door with our son then turn to him, bow and say “Sayonara”. Our son, who clearly was not picking up on the Japanese would look at him, bow and say “Yup! SeeYaTomorra”!

My kid is in high school and we still will say “Soyonara” and he will respond with a wink and say “SeeYaTomorra”

Nora: I  Love hearing how children  are interpreting  the world around them. We had a child who,  you know, we had described something as poisonous.  Like, oh, that’s poisonous.  But, like, he heard that as a noun,  so he would just say  You know, you might be wondering how many times can poison come up in casual conversation.

A lot. A lot. And he was telling me something once, and he was like, yeah. So,  um, this this dad once, he had some poisonous.  And so that has always stuck with me.

And then for a long time, they heard the word disgusting as eggs gusting, And we all say that too. And I love how those little tiny things can just become a part of your everyday parlance, and now  It’s and now who who knows who else is gonna start saying that because you shared that and because your son still has A good sense of humor.
