Listen Now

When you’re in a depressive state, it’s totally normal to want to lay in bed and hide from the world. One of our listeners called in with some advice for all of us on those dark days.

About It's Going to Be OK

If you have anxiety, depression or any sense of the world around you, you know that not *everything* is going to be okay. In fact, many things aren’t okay and never will be!

But instead of falling into the pit of despair, we’re bringing you a little OK for your day. Every weekday, we’ll bring you one okay thing to help you start, end or endure your day with the opposite of a doom scroll.

Okay Caller: Hi, my name is Lisa from St. Petersburg, Florida, and my okay thing is, well, it starts with a sad thing,  but it all, it all evens out, right? Got to ride the wave,  but I had. I had a miscarriage in October and a surgery in November, and I’m approaching that anniversary.  Um,  but when I went through the miscarriage, I could feel myself slipping into a depression that I, I’m used to.

I had decided that this time  I wanted to try something different. I, I wasn’t going to isolate myself. Um.  I was going to talk about it and I was  going to go through it and not avoid it  and it just was, I didn’t expect something that my midwife and doctors and nurses, that everyone was telling me how common miscarriages were, but how truly isolating it was feeling.

And when I talked about it, it really shook up my friend circle.  And even though people had gone through it or were dealing with similar issues, it was like, it was something it felt like no one wanted to hear about or talk about, and it was so confusing,  but during that time, um, someone who I was getting close with through the pandemic, that we communicated with memes on a daily basis,  just started inviting me to stuff, and that olive branch, that  invite, um, Um, made such a difference, and I, and it hit at a point where I was telling myself,  You’re not going to say no.

If someone invites you, go. And just be open with them. Like, I don’t know how I’m going to act. I’m going through this big thing. And if you’re still cool with that,  I would love to be there. And so I, anytime someone invited me, no matter how I was feeling that day, 15 minutes before, I showed up.
