I’m Nora McInerny and it’s going to be okay. This podcast is a group project. We know many things are not okay, and yet every weekday we are here sharing an okay thing with you. Sharing something, some small thing, that will help you start or end your day with the opposite of a doom scroll. Today’s okay thing comes from a listener who sent us an email.
Actually, two listeners sent an email together. Two best friends. wrote an email together and sent it to us.
Okay Email: Hi, Nora and team. First off, thank you so much for everything you do. We are avid listeners and lovers of TTFA and now IGTBO. I’m telling you guys, this is an acronym podcast. We have a thing that we’d like to share that lets us know it’s going to be okay.
Some background. We are platonic soulmates. We met six ish years ago, working with autistic kids, and our friendship was kindled by spontaneous trips for pancakes and doughnuts. We frequently answer questions in unison with the same answer, are both in deeply emotional helping professions, and love small people, cats, and books.
We call each other solely, that’s S O U L I E. which I love, and feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t have one. Get on it. How do we know it’s going to be okay? The treat. That’s a TM emoji. We’ve trademarked it for our lives and have slowly been teaching each other’s, teaching each other’s, and have slowly been teaching others about its wonderful properties.
There are very specific rules for the treat. The treat, TM, is best served post a difficult or emotional or too adulty thing that you have to do, but can be enjoyed any time because simply living this life is sometimes hard. Amen. 2. The treat, TM, must be something that you want, not something that you need.
We suggest a food item, but it could be a fidget, a sweatshirt, anything really that is going to feel like you’re spoiling yourself because you are. 3. The treat, TM, is absolutely necessary once a friend or a soulie has asked the question, What is your treat? There is no excuse. Do not get yourself one, and you must provide proof.
Photo proof. I love this for the treat. TM cannot make you feel guilty or ashamed. This is the most important rule. If your treat needs to be a 7 chocolate croissant from the best bakery in town, then that’s what it has to be. The purpose of the treat TM is to honor your work and life and emotions. and not feel guilty for giving yourself a little pleasure.
The gods know this world shakes in their boots at the concepts of pleasure. If you are feeling some guilt or hesitation, we suggest contacting a friend or solely for permission, quotation marks, to which the friend or solely is obligated to grant it. We ask today, what is your treat? It’s going to be okay.
Big love because small love is for the Normies. Minda and Titi. Names our small people have given to us and we are very fond of them. Our real names are Amanda and Jay.
What is your treat? What is your treat? Go get yourselves a treat. We are each other’s soulies. You deserve a treat. And you are now obligated to get the treat.
And don’t forget the trademark.
